Daybro’s green hills are absolutely stunning, every time I am up there I am amazed by the green grass and on this day we had one of my favorite things – A Big Sky. Today was going to a great day.

Katie and Greg are a lovely couple who live locally, the first image below is actually the amazing view from their kitchen window! I had a great day with them and am very pleased with the images, I hope they are too…

Bicheno Wedding, Tasmania – Robbie and Cassie

The east coast of Tasmania is one of my favourite areas in the country. The Granite points that sink into the ocean are covered with the most amazing red moss that I have never seen anywhere else. The road winds it’s way inland then along the coast through little seaside villages that appear frozen in time. The people are so relaxed and friendly, that is one of the reasons why I married one myself.

Robbie and Cassie are a fantastic couple from Hobart and picked a little bed and breakfast resort just north of Bicheno as the destination for their wedding. I think it was a lovely choice. With a fine marquee and the often unreliable Tasmanian weather really turning it on for us, the scene was set for a cracking wedding. I am not sure if I have ever seen a happier Bride walk down the isle and everyone else had a fabulous time, I had a ball shooting it.

St Kilda Wedding- Amy and Tom’s Melbourne Wedding

When my great old friend called me up to ask me to do a wedding that she was in the bridal party of and spend the weekend in Melbourne, how could I refuse.

Upon arrival to the boutique hotel, the girls were looking fabulous and the nervous anticipation was thick in the air. Mum and Dad were on hand to lend their support. A couple of champagnes and we were ready to get a few shots of the girls.

Meanwhile the boys (I’m not sure if I can recall more groomsmen than this) were busy in the bar for a couple of looseners. We managed to get some great shots of the fellas upstairs prior to the ceremony.

The ceremony, performed by one of Tom’s great mates, was lovely up on the rooftop deck with a musical interlude by Tom’s brother. Those doing the readings – nailed it.

A few quick shots in the golden evening light and it was time for the party. Everyone spoke well and the evening was full of laughter and dancing until the end of Amy and Tom’s perfect day.

On a personal note it was great to see so many mates at the wedding, it has been too long between drinks!

Sunshine Beach Wedding – Melissa and Matt

Arriving at the apartment on the hill in Noosa Melissa and her friends and Family were well underway. Despite the threat of rain everyone was upbeat albeit with their fingers crossed and pretty relaxed under the circumstances I must say.

The little girls were completely adorable and were having a lovely time while all the action was happening. The bride was dressed and her low backed dress looked amazing both on the hangar and on her. Final touches were made as Dad arrived and off to the ceremony.

The clouds were hanging over our heads as we arrived at the Surf club. The lawn looked amazing and was one of the nicest views for the guests I have seen at a wedding. After the efficient ceremony all the guests had time to say their congratulatory words and we raced off to beat the light and the rain.

A fabulous picnic in the National park was just what the bride and groom needed for our quick (not as quick as I expected however ) walk to tea-tree bay. Once there we made good use of the quickly disappearing light and got some brilliant shots.

A few more shots in Hastings St and back to the reception. Just before the heavens opened (and didn’t it come down).

A very casual and warm reception with some beautiful food and friends. Then the party began…..

Wedding day at the Racecourse – Kat and Sam

Now I have mentioned in previous blogs that we have had a fair share of wet Saturdays of late, this one was the wettest! But with this fun (and courageous Kat!) couple we had a really fun day, it could have been snowing…..

Kat was well underway by the time that I arrived at Sam and Kat’s lovely new house, the girls had been up since 4.30 in preparation and poor Kat had had a pretty sleepless night with a few water problems of her own (not due to the weather). Aside from the aqua-problems everything was now running smoothly and With mum sis and best mate in tow the girls were getting visibly exited, nothing was going to rain on their parade.

The Racecourse was the perfect setting for these guys. Sam is heavily involved in the Racing Club and both of them (and many of their guests too) love a good day out at the races. As the Strings began Kat glided down the isle with the grace of a 50′s movie star to her man. With some beautiful and personal vows it was confirmed, Mr and Mrs. Adams.

We had scouted many locations around the course and I had a good idea of what we would do given the weather for out photos. They came up beautifully, I wish I had more to show you (you will just have to wait for the online gallery).

The huge room was set up with one long table and was perfect. The speeches were heartfelt and funny with the obvious references to “The Adams Family”, a long running family joke according to Sam’s Dad.

The cake was cut and it was time for the Dance floor. Kat and Sam wowed everyone with a fantastic routine, very impressive indeed, then the party began.

Thanks to everyone for their messages for the couple, I think they worked out fabulously (even if they did get a little more colourful the later the afternoon wore on.

Wedding in the Samford Valley – Alex and Ben

I used to make promises about the weather, I have had far too many soggy Saturdays of late, today I would promise nothing; with rain forcast. I do still however try to instil confidence (and rightly so) in the quality of images that are taken under overcast skies and for very good reason. The sky acts like a giant soft box and is wonderful for skin and clothing – perfect for a wedding.

I arrived to find the Girls in a pretty calm state, the mood was relaxed even with a 3 year old flower girl in tow. The Hair and Makeup were coming along nicely as the whole family slowly began to appear one by one.

Ben and his groomsmen were on hand to finalise a couple of things and we had a chance to shoot them all.

As the ceremony drew near the bride began to increase, ever so slightly, her nervousness as such an occasion dictates. Not fear of the impending downpour as courageously Alex kept putting off the decision to go for safety. And what a good thing she did.

Alex and Ben were married at in the gorgeous Samford Valley, set high on the hill. The 3 flower girls, after a bit of a detour, eventually found the isle that they were to head for as did Alex’s sisters and the Bride herself. The ceremony was both lovely and funny with the novel idea of the reading of quotes about couples, love and life.

With the light fading it was time for a few shots around the grounds of the venue and the beautiful soft lighting made for some top quality images, a real cracker of the bridal party (even if I do say so myself).

It was finally time for a drink and the party began….

Brisbane Wedding – Janine and Shane

Awaking to the weather report for “heavy rain” is often a worry for any wedding photographer, not because of the photos (the rain can make for some beautiful reflections and the sky is like a giant soft box) but because of the bride. Some brides can be anxious to say the least and when the plans are for a wedding in the Botanical gardens, “things could be tricky this morning” I thought to myself.

As soon as I saw Janine in the lobby at Quay west I knew that todays bride was not that anxious bride I had feared. Her calmness was contagious. With the weather starting to close in the conversation quickly turned to the reality of the situation and the backup plans, both of which were perfectly good alternatives, the decision was however postponed until later in the day.

The girls enjoyed a few drinks and a beautiful plater as the gorgeous Erin and her mate set to work.

The weather continued to set in as the decision was made to use the courtyard of the hotel, with great efficiency the girls informed the guests in no time and it was all done.

Mum and Dad arrived, the former with a flurry of activity as the page boys and flower girls stormed the room, as the excitement built and the girls dressed.

After a small panic (of lost rings) everyone settled and we began…Shane was suitably impressed by his lovely bride, he was grinning like a cheshire cat.

After the ceremony I had decided that we would use some of the locations around the city that were undercover and I was very pleased with our little walk. I was especially happy with Janine’s suggestion of a beautiful derelict building that she had noticed nearly everyday on her way to work. – Absolutely love it! I have actually used the image in the coming edition of Queensland Brides Magazine.

With the reception beginning we got down to Janine’s List – A substantial list with many permutations and combinations and I am positive that everyone was pleased when we finished.

Nothing More to do but get on with the Party and I have no doubt that everyone had a fantastic time long into the night.

Brisbane Wedding – Kimberly and Matthew

Kimberly and Matthew are a lovely young couple who have the fortune to find that special significant other very early on in life. There show a maturity well beyond their years and their love for one another is as evident as any couple I have photographed before.

With Kimberly getting ready at the Conrad Treasury the old facade of the building hides the splendor and history that lies beneath the walls. The old rooms adorned in timber and fine fabrics was contrasted by the 3 young ladies that make up the bridal party. With only two windows and an overcast day the room created fine mood for the the day ahead of preparations. Very quiet at first the girls then found their voice and went about the task of getting ready.

A quick trip over to see the boys, they didn’t answer the door in a hurry but they must have been busy. After a bottle of bubbly, the three brothers were suitably fussed over by mum and they were all dressed to the nines in no time flat. The fellas getting ready really is a sinch.

Back to the girls for the most important part of the day, the Dress! With a short trip to the ceremony, lovely vows were exchanged and the couple were united. Family shots and off around the gardens for photos.

The reception was held also at the conrad treasury and the room was amazing, a real credit to Kimberly who expertly managed the whole day like a seasoned wedding planner. The room was divine and after some canapés and pre dinner drinks the guests were seated for the bridal party’s entry. After a few kind words the cake was cut and the festivities began, long into the night for Matt’s Brothers I hope………….

Woolongabba Wedding – Dierdre and Adam

With Brisbane’s annual festival kicking off and their wedding and reception in the immediate vacinity it was always going to be an interesting day….

The wedding was held at The Broadway Chapel in Woolongabba, a lovely little chapel close to town. A lovely service with light streaming through the large stain glass windows. As the guitarists soothing voice ringing out through the signing of the register the sky theatened to close in on us and heavy rain predicted we were wisked away by the old Roller and her Driver. We had decided that we would do a few dayligt hours location shots and then get a few more when the fireworks started. The Ducks swam past and a champagne picnic prepared we got what we had come for and it was back to the reception.

The room was beautifully presented given the trouble that the Landing had encountered merely days before and the sight of a fire truck upon our arrival may have given the Bride a temporary fright. No need to panic though, the staff had done a fantastic job and it was not long until the fireworks started.

Lovely food and some clever speaches, couple of formalities and then it was time to party……..

Alicia and Nick – St Lucia Wedding

After a hectic start, things settled down to a lovely relaxed day surrounded by friends and family at the beautiful Hillstone St Lucia. After the delightful ceremony we toddled off to the University for some beautiful location shots. The soft lighting of an overcast day is never a problem for a photographer, in fact it produces spectacular results! Back to the party where everyone could relax and soak in the lovely food and wine.
